My best friend and I started going on hiking trips a few years ago for our annual girls getaway, and I ‘ve been doing lots of it ever since, especially during these times of social distancing. I love the outdoors, views, exercise, photo ops, and most of all the time to talk with friends. Now that I finally have a feel for what to pack for a hike, and wanted to share a few of my favorite things for you to bring along on your next hiking trip.

I’ve linked each of the items listed in this post. Just click on the pictures below.

1. Headlamp

Sometimes you need to arrive early in the morning to avoid crowds or get good parking. Having a headlamp is a great option to have on hand for hiking at dawn or dusk. $10.99

2. Daypack

Having a lightweight daypack that fits easily into your luggage is a must have to carry snacks, water, phone and supplies. $18.99

3. Collapsible Water Bottle

Refillable water bottles are the way to go, and this one attaches to your pack and fits easily inside when collapsed. $14.99

4. Hiking Boots

The right footwear is key. Waterproof boots with good support will keep you comfortable all day and your feet protected. If you are hiking on rocky terrain, next to higher drop offs, or on lose stone, the right boots will help you grip the ground and give you more confidence to tackle those more difficult hikes. $170

5. Knit Cap

This will keep you warm on a cool morning or windy day.

6. Lip Balm

Cool weather, sun and wind can be tough on your lips, so I never leave on a hike without lip balm with SPF. $9.99 (three pack).

7. Sunscreen Stick

A day outdoors is good for the soul but hard on your skin. This small SPF stick is easy to fit in your bag. $8.97

8. Snack Bars

Eventually you’ll need some more energy, so pack some snacks to help pick you up. $15.29

9. Tripod

I’m obsessed with taking photos, so having this mini tripod is awesome. It can be attached almost anywhere and is small enough to easily bring with you. $15.99

10. Vest

A down vest will keep you warm in the morning, but easily fit in your day pack later. I’ve included a link to a great inexpensive find. $26.95
